Traditional chandlers have used candles of various shapes, colors, and placements to tap into the energy of the unconscious and spiritual realms for centuries. We have seen this in religious rituals and personal meditative sessions.
Making candles with intention is taking a basic candle and mapping out a specific recipe with a purpose. The most common intention candle used today is for meditation. This candle is meant to tap into each person’s connection to deep focus through aroma. That is an example of a candle with intention in its simplest form.
We often associate a fragrance with peace or tranquility and it is not the same for everyone. The purpose of a meditation candle is to keep you in the mental zone you need to be in for a longer or deeper more effective time.
The most common ritual practices we see today are candles lit within the Catholic churches. An example of altering candles is tapered candles found higher than the others and lit first before prayer.
Additionally, a priest burns frankincense and myrrh incense as a cleansing similar to what we see when we burn ‘ ‘smudges”. We see incense burned in our everyday lives.
This is important to mention as a chandler there is no scientific evidence to support the effects of candles made with intention. However, our culture has supported many beliefs from many religions and backgrounds.
If intersecting elements bring you closer to your goal, peace, or God then by all means let go and be blessed.
Candle placement such as right or left, right representing male energy, and left representing female energy, can also be higher or taller depending on what type of ritual you are performing.
Higher candles or longer candles are often lit first or extinguished last. They symbolize rank or status.
Candle Shape is second to placement or complementary. Most shapes have a balance of Ying and Yang, dark and light, or good and bad. Depending on what the shape is paired with, color and essential oil can determine its use.
As an example, the shape of a cat represents luck and can be used to bring good luck or break a bad streak. It can also be used to put a” hex” on someone if used incorrectly and drain the good luck.
Pairing a cat shape with the color green can represent the promise of good luck in money on finances, and paired with an oil anointment of your choosing you are altering it to you and your specific needs.
Candle color is a major tool in manifesting one’s success. We often see this in our dress, decor, and surroundings. Knowing what color can do on a conscious, as well as a subconscious level is what tapping into cosmic energy is all about.
White reflects light. When in doubt about making candles, use white. It’s the most balanced and pure in virtues. Colors can be balanced with white to create pastels of other colors to create balance and tone.
Black absorbs light and can draw what is needed for the user. When making candles, black can be added to draw energy in a specific direction. Complete darkness can banish energy such as bad luck to make room for good luck.
Candle Anointment is part of finishing the candle. It is “dressing” the candle or sending the message to address and deliver accurately. The oil, (infused oil, herbs, spices), essential oil, or fragrance oil is attuned specifically and personally to you.
Candle dressing can also be extended through the addition of herbs and spices, crystals, gems, and stones. Again placement and combinations are key to a successful candle.
Candle timing in conjunction with the phases of the moon and the alignment of the planets also impacts the intention. As an example, white candles are often made during a full moon when the intention is for emotional healing. Candles are then used during the best time as well.
I do need to mention that no matter what candle you make, it won’t get you the job you are not qualified for or the spouse you have never met.
A candle with intention brings you clarity first so that you can help yourself. The mind is capable of many things. It’s our mindset and belief that bring us closer to our desires.
Candles with intention work very similar to vision boards and work with all of our senses. Envisioning ourselves in a life where we want to be is the first step to getting there.
Making candles with intention start with a regular candle. They can be a container or a pillar candle. It is up to the chandler to choose an all-natural approach or commonly available materials. It is important to use quality ingredients.
It is also important to consider the market if you are selling these. High-quality ingredients will drive up the cost of the candles. This is good for personal use and most effective but may limit the target customer. The cost of a higher-end candle will be significant. This could also be an opportunity to establish your brand in a niche that has fewer makers because of cost.
All candles require testing. I have included affiliate links to help you in your candle-making journey. We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post via affiliate links to products or services associated with content in this article.

Container candles can be made starting from a single simple fragrance or essential oil used for meditation or a complex construction to mend a broken heart.
Start with a good choice for a container.

What goes around, comes around.
Creating combinations for each element can be endless. Essential oils can be combined. Stones can be combined with crystals and herbs.
Candle shapes are not limited to what is listed above. Shapes can be a multitude of things. It is impossible to cover everything in the article that could apply. Keep searching for more ways to create recipes.
Here are examples that you can shop for. Candles with intention can be made in many variations and as container or pillar forms.
Making Candles with Intention
Now that you have an understanding that this type of candle has a purpose we can start mapping out a plan for a candle. We want to be very specific with the purpose of the candle.
Candles can be very personal and should be. I don’t always follow the rules in traditional recipes. I start with what we need to do in our journey that gets us to our destination. The most requested candle is money and the second is love. We have to be very specific.
Mixing elements that attract luck and money won’t bring you the winning lotto ticket and is too general, this purpose can be fulfilled by finding a dollar in an old coat pocket. You need to also be prepared to visualize what it is that you desire.
A money candle should be a meditative path to abundance. There is no such thing as getting rich quickly so fast money doesn’t last. Quick answers may come with cinnamon but not money. There are two parts to my Money Candle – first the candle and second the affirmation.
Money Candle Recipe
Container Money Candle
- Prepare an 8-ounce candle jar or tin by attaching the appropriate wick.
- Melt 6 ounces of soy wax to 185 degrees F, set aside to cool to 165 degrees F.
- Add 1.5 ounces of sandalwood fragrance oil and 1 drop of green candle dye.
- Mix for 1-2 minutes and pour into the candle vessel.
- Align the wick and let set.
- Heat the top of the candle with a heat tool until liquid enough to add citrine crystals and cloves.
- Dust with ground pyrite.
- Let this candle cure in the container for at least 2 weeks.
Pillar Money Candle
- Prepare a similar candle as above using the recommended fragrance load for the wax blend you are using. Refer to my article on making pillar candles.
- Prepare a pyramid candle mold.
- Before the second pour, while the wax is still soft, embed the citrine and cloves.
- Dust the bottom of the pyramid with ground pyrite after you remove the candle from the mold.
- The candle can also be decorated with gold flecks.
- After it has been removed from the mold, let cure for 48-72 hours.
Money Affirmation
“I can afford everything that I want.
Money comes to me easily and effortlessly.
I deserve abundance.
I envision my life free of debt.
I am grateful and blessed.”
These candles should be burned routinely and during a meditation period. Do not light them and burn them like a regular candle or they will have no effect.
Visualize yourself in the ideal lifestyle you want. Imagine what you would be surrounded by and what your daily life would look like. It is not enough to simply burn the candle.
Love Candle Recipe
Container Love Candle

Love (Self Love) Affirmation
“I am open to receive love.
Love comes to me easily and effortlessly.
I deserve affection.
I envision my life as healthy and positive.
If you want to get over a relationship, substitute the primrose with hyacinth and add some onyx instead of the amethyst. This will help you to move on and start to feel better about yourself. Make some healing candles.

Blue candle with Magnolia fragrance oil with opal gemstone and agate with rosebuds makes a good combination.
Where to get quality crystals and gemstones
I have found that ordering from some unknown sources can lead to fake or cheap stones. If you are lucky enough to live close to Hot Springs, Arkansas make a trip!
Here is a trusted source I use often
Once you have used your candle you will need to know how to clean up the crystals.
